Congresswoman Jenkins Criticizes President's Rejection Of Keystone XL Pipeline

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Obama today announced the rejection of the application to build the Keystone XL pipeline, after seven years of review. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) condemned that decision, releasing the following statement:

“Today, President Obama showed he is more interested in style than substance, choosing to capitulate to fringe environmental groups despite no evidence that the Keystone XL pipeline would have any environmental impact. The President’s decision shows his willingness to cost the American economy tens of thousands of jobs  and billions of dollars in revenue, rather than stand up to the extremes of his own party. At a time when our nation’s economy continues to struggle, President Obama chose the politically expedient road in his search for a legacy, endangering America’s prosperity in the process.”

 Items to Note

-          In January, the State Department’s own review concluded that the pipeline would not increase carbon emissions and confirmed the project would be better for safety and the environment.

-          The State Department’s report also showed that the pipeline’s construction would support over 42,000 jobs.
