Congresswoman Jenkins Disscusses E-Verify at Kansas Manufactuing Plant

Illegal immigration continues to strain our economic, legal, and national security interests. More than 12 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States unchecked in the past decade. In this time of emboldened and violent terrorists such as ISIS, we must stop the flow of illegal immigrants, strengthen our borders by increasing the number of border agents, build additional fences, and utilize technology to monitor our borders. It needs to be as difficult as possible for illegal immigrants to obtain and use false identification documents.

We also need to address illegal immigration in the employment line.  Employers should have an easily-administered system that can accurately and quickly confirm a person’s identity and immigration status. The workplace verification system known as E-Verify is an important tool for employers to ensure their employees have a legal immigration status. I am glad to see the program has received a satisfaction score by businesses of 85, which is 20 points higher than the government average. We must continue to improve the program to make certain it remains an effective tool to ensure a legal workforce without placing unnecessary burdens on our small businesses.  

Please be assured I will look at ways to crack down on illegal immigration and to reform the legal immigration system so American citizens can find work.
