Today, at the weekly press conference with Republican leaders, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) discussed the impact of the Republican Majority in the last 100 days and the solutions the House has advanced to create an opportunity economy – including Congresswoman Jenkins’ legislation to help more American’s attend and afford higher education.

The following are Congresswoman Jenkins’ remarks:

“As part of House Republican’s focus on Americans priorities, we have had a very productive first 100 days. We passed a budget that balances, promoted job creation, held the Administration accountable, enacted long-term Medicare reforms, protected our veterans, and passed my bill to help more American’s attend and afford higher education. 

“As you know, in January, the president proposed taxing 529 college savings plans and taking that money from hardworking families to pay for more government. The American people strongly rejected that idea, which led to the House passage of my bill to expand, modernize and strengthen 529 plans. The President may not be a fan, but Republicans and Democrats alike made clear that they support the plan and quickly passed it with overwhelming support.

“529s are a proven way of empowering hardworking American families to achieve the dream that they have for their children and I am glad to be a part of this House which is working hard to make these dreams come true.

“Our work is ongoing, and there is much more that we can do to help more Americans.  It is my hope that the momentum of the first 100 days will lead us to more big ideas and solutions.”
